. >>> i am anne makovec at the live news desk. a live look at the richmond san rafael bridge. it is been through it but the lanes are reopened after a fiery crash yesterday. the bridge was shut down for five hours until those lanes reopened early this morning. this is video we found on social media. you can see the semi truck on fire. apparently it collided with a car. the driver of the car became trapped and died. the driver of the truck though was able to escape. after the crash,they had to spend several hours inspecting the bridge to see if there was damage. it looks to be not the case but they still have one lane closed. traffic is moving smoothly. >>> san jose hit with a lawsuit hours after passing the nation's first law requiring gun owners to purchase liability insurance and pay a $25 annual fee. the national association for gun rights filed a lawsuit yesterday. the group wants to block the law from taking effect while legal challenges play out in court. the suit claims the annual fee is essentially a tax on the second amendment and argue that is unconstitutional. >> th

len kiese is often we have another breaking story out-of- stocks and with anne makovec at the live news desk. >> reporter: the stockton fire captain was shot and killed this morning while responding to a call in within the past hour. we learned that a 67-year-old man is in police custody in connection with the shooting and the firefighter is identified as a captain, max fortuna and there is a new video with the shooting happening just before 5:00 near the highway 4 underpass. the crew of max fortuna was responding to a dumpster fire. they heard a gunshot and realize that the captain had been hit. he had been a firefighter for 21 years and leaves behind a wife and two children. >> captain max fortuna was one of our heroes. this is a sobering reminder of the sacrifices of firefighters making day in and day out in service to our community. his leadership and commitment to our city is reflected here by his brothers, sisters, community and showing relentless support. max was a firefighter who showed up every day and never complained about the job. i don't know many other firefighters that en

. >>> i am anne makovec at the live news desk. we have our eye on the supreme court today when it comes to vaccine mandates. the supreme court is going to consider two of president biden's proposed mandates. those mandates are not being enforced yet because they've been held up in lower courts. one of them means businesses with over 100 employees would have to be vaccinated and for healthcare workers at facilities receiving medicaid and medicare funding. now, there is no time line as to when court will decide on this. usually it takes several months but this one is likely on the fast track. we'll keep an eye on it. >>> from hospitals to schools to public transit, alarming surge in coronavirus cases causing major disruptions throughout the region. a planned teacher sick-out in oakland has principal at one school telling students to stay home today. >> reporter: we got a copy of the memo sent to parents by the principal at oakland tech high school telling them it is basically pointless to send their kids to the classroom. this is th

. >>> i am anne makovec at the live news desk. a live look at the richmond san rafael bridge because it reopened this morning after being closed down for more than five hours. the latest word is there was no damage after this fiery crash. this is video from social media. you can see the tractor trailer on fire. chp says the truck collided with a car. the driver of the car was trapped and did die at the scene. the truck driver though was able to escape but it caused the bridge to be shut down for many hhi they say it was not damaged but last word there still was one lane closed. it should be a pretty normal morning commute. >>> an update out of san jose, the city has been hit with a lawsuit hours after passing the nation's first law requiring gun owners to purchase liability insurance and pay a $25 annual fee. national association for gun rights filed a lawsuit. the group wants to block the law from taking effect while legal challenges play out in court. the suit claims the annual fee is essentially a tax on the second amendment an
