i was born and raised on a small iowa farm town. i think we have all been hearing about the guest: i have always believed if i cannot sell my message to the coffee shop -- i was going to sell it. we have all been hearing about the confusion and mixed messages and unclear messages coming out about the pandemic. we have to be clear, this is an evolving science situation. we are learning more all the time. i say somewhat joking, also with some seriousness, there are days i feel and know less about this virus now than i did six months ago. we have to communicate very clearly. we have to communicate what we know very clearly and we have to communicate what we are going to do to find out the uncertainty and how to address it. we have not done that. we have not done so that the average american feels "i know what is going on." that has become an important part of the trust in our communities. people will stay with you if you tell them as honestly as you can, as clear as you can, what it is we know, what it is we do not know. a good example
