joe rogan breaking his silence just yesterday. speak of the problem i have with misinformation especially today is that many of the things that we thought of as misinformation just a short while ago are now accepted as fact. i'm interested in telling the truth and finding out what the truth is, but i'm interested in having interesting conversations with people that have differing opinions. >> kayleigh: harris, he makes a compelling point, he wants to get a different opinion and he hasn't entitled to do that. your thoughts. >> harris: i look at this the same way that twitter sticks stuff though it meant sticker on my stuff, with the things that are actually happening as a journalist and they just don't like the fact that oh, yeah, you mean there is an investigation into -- and they are looking at hunter biden. they will take you down and sticker you and cancel you. i wonder if this is not the same road that spotify is now willing to walk down. because it will cost them. it will cost them more than the people who lead the platform,

spotify feels so much pressure, they end up parting ways with joe rogan. joe row ban acquiesces more than last night and says i am going to change my ways. in doing that, he could lose hardcore supporters. or three, this news moves on and let's be honest, people forget about it. what do you think we could see? >> i imagine it may ultimately turn out to be closer to the third option if you will, and how you set that up. you could think about netflix as a model. there was a huge debate over the chappell show a couple months ago. we don't talk about that anymore. that leaves me there. having said that, you asked the question earlier, is something happening behind the scenes, i think, you know, harry and meghan, for example, have a deal with spotify, and there is word they were behind the scenes pushing and pressing. i imagine there are other artists pushing and pressing. the question is what does spotify do, what does joe rogan do, and does spotify want to be like fox? i think the answer is not, because there is a real economic impact to having that impact th

>> joe rogan, he tends to cast himself as a man of the people. he does this thing when he says, i speak to everybody. itwant to appeal to people who are critical thinkers and who are open-minded. part of the issue here is, yes, he does host recent voices on his podcast, he also hosts extremists and people that spread misinformation. and that misinformation can be very harmful, particularly during a pandemic, when you have millions of people listening to it, thinking they're getting open-minded contender or critical content, which can be quite skewed. >> there is money to be made in misinformation and dismotivation and the outrage that it sparks. >> that is true. in my book, we talk about this concept of manufacturing consensus, creating the illusion of popularity for content, through algorithms on social media that has content that is more sensational or does what we call rage farming in the place of actually hosting scientific content or good quality content that helps people to understand what is actually going on from experts. >> so what spoti

broadly with the large fan base that joe rogan has what is the joe rogan effect on his listeners? >> thank you for having me. yes, a podcast of this size that joe rogan has, and the effect of misinformation spreading to such a large audience, they have sort of a responsibility to the public during a public health emergency to protect the public from this kind of misinformation and harmful information going to the public. and right now we have 26% of our population that is still unvaccinated, and misinformation like this directly contributes to that. >> is part of what he was making there the case against vaccines, was he was trying to say there is such a risk of myocarditis for a certain age group with the vaccine, in fact, he was fact checked that the risk of myocarditis from actual covid is many times higher. what did you think of his response to that when he then went on to say, well, where are we getting this from? >> it is very concerning because, you know, joe rogan is an entertainer, he is not a public health or medical professional. and listening to, you know, the -- there

how significant is joe rogan's podcast source of some of that misinformation? >> thank you so much for having me. the request for debunking misinformation is a common ask throughout the pandemic. there is a ton of disinformation and misinformation surrounding covid-19 as a virus, covid-19 vaccines and the data. i wasn't surprised i was getting a deluge of inquiries about this particular episode which, unfortunately, has gone viral and is filled with pretty regularly debunked misinformation. what was most concerning to me, though, and made me respond was the fact i was noticing a trend from people i found to be quite discerning and able to distinguish what's true and not true following the sharing of that particular episode. >> what i find interesting is you're not asking spotify to take down the episode or to cancel joe rogan, you're asking them to create a policy. so what are you looking for here? >> correct. and i think that has somehow gotten completely misconstrued by a lot of joe rogan fans, by a lot of people who are very sensitive to anything that maybe

joe rogan experience 11 million spotify listeners per episode. so what's happening here when it comes to spotify, the decisions being made, especially when it's let's keep joe rogan. >> yeah, i think spotify is just thinking about their bottom line. i don't think they're eager to lose either neil young or joni mitchell, but joe rogan is a superstar. they pay him about $100 billion and he has a huge fan base. they're standing by the money and joe rogan and taking a big risk. if a few more artists, if they follow and neil and joni, it's pretty bad for spotify. i want to read some of your response, which you included in your reporting, justifying their decisions. you said this -- rogan has yet to comment on the matter, but spotify did release a statement saying we have detailed and have removed over 20,000 podcast episodes related to covid-19 since the start of this pandemic. he regret neil's decision to remove his music, but hope to welcome him bake soon, not really taking any responsibility or quite frankly addressing what rogan is putting out the

does it have the same impact now this stuff is happening on joe rogan's podcast? does it have less of an impact now that we're so far into this? i mean, more so than when this was all so new, scary, uncertain? >> so i actually think that the impact of disinformation and misinformation such as is being spread on joe rorogan's podcasts cumulative. every time that another lie or twist of the truth is spread by someone like joe rogan or any social media star or influencer, it has an additive effect. i get emails from people fully on board with the science. people with ph.d.s, teachers, folks who understand how to evaluate evidence who are tremendously pro-vaccine saying to me, have you heard of so and so or so and so, people that have been featured on joe rogan's podcast. it is spreading and the problem is that once it takes hold, it becomes so much more difficult to combat. the impact of this narrative is difficult to overstate and it's going to make it much more difficult to get the remaining americans who have not yet gotten vaccinated to finally show up and get th
