wade, what roe v. wade at this point is protecting in america the rights of poor women, women who don't have significant means, who live in republican-controlled states, who will then change the laws and restrict abortion or ban abortion completely. the wealthy women in those states will easily be able to travel to other states that provide abortion services and, of course, the big democratic states will preserve abortion rights as they have them now. and so a majority of the population, actually, will be living under democratic state governments that preserve all of roe and more. and so it's really at this point the protection that was being debated, really, in the supreme court was really just the protection of women who don't have the means, to create their own choices in these situations. >> that's right. and that's really why the choice framework, is more i will lus sorry than real, because for very poor women it's very difficult. let's be clear. in mississippi there's only one abortion clinic tha

as you know, the supreme court right now is considering whether to overturn roe v. wade. it has been asked to do that. that was a decision made 50 years ago. if it is overturned, i think it would likely be along the lines of the republican nominated justices on one side nominated justices on the other. if something like that was to happen, do you think that would add new momentum to either of these proposals? professor rodriguez, would you start with that? prof. rodriguez i think that if and when the sipping court in june curtails the right to terminate her pregnancy and, and defending on how it goes about doing that, but it will cause significant political reverberations. i think that will strengthen the bailment of the calls that some people are making for expanding the court, but the bottom line is that the democrats do not have the power in congress to do that at the moment. i do not think that it is a realistic reform, especially given the prospects for the next two elections. i do think, however, that the debates that we are having now and the commission report that

v. wade and of course, justice breyer will be on the court when that decision comes down. but it won't change the balance of the court. but here's what it is going to change. it's going to be somebody of a new generation. it's going to be somebody who is a woman. it's going to be somebody who is a black woman. and that is bringing an entirely different experience, of course, from justice breyer's experience, and that's important and good. when you talk about reproductive rights and abortion rights, what actually happens to the people on the ground is so important. skbris breyer did capture that in his opinions. but to have somebody who really reflects the experience that women have is really important. >> there are a number of cases involving abortion restrictions around the country, the possible undoing of roe v. wade, as you mentioned, with the mississippi case that you're directly involved in. are there ways in which the preparations for these cases chapgs based on the makeup of the s
