you have been doing this the last few weeks in locations of san jose and san ramon and what do we know of other locations? >> there is a company called center for covid control. they use a lap that's both based in illinois. what we know about that company right now is it paused its operation here. it will retrain its staff because a lot of people said they didn't get results. we found that there was a federal audit of the laboratory that found that there were a lot of problems that were not testing in the proper time frame. they had samples that didn't have people's names on them. they had times when there were samples that were stored in trash bags. this company says it is going to reopen this weekend, we'll see about that because at the same time they claim they're going to reopen. the state of minnesota has sued them alleging a whole myriad problems and we'll have to see how that goes. again, that's the power of subpoena to get far more answers. at this point, they're not answering a lot more questions. >> as david is saying. there is so many of us, we are all on the same boat and t

at least three of the roughly 300 test sites nationally popped up in san ramon and mountain view. some complained they lined up, got tested and neff got results. the fbi searched the office in illinois. the top watchdog joined the fbi search. hhs has paid the company more than $140 million to do covid testing, and a medicare inspector found multiple failures. the main office will remain closed indefinitely during the federal investigation but the local test sites might open under different names. local offices are independently operated. they just released the local sites from their contracts. so they are free to reopen under new names and use a different lab. the ccc signage is already down at the mountain view location. we asked a man if he intends to reopen them under a new name. he did not respond. how can you find a test site can you trust? today we asked dr. jennifer tong. she said start with your own doctor or local public health office. >> next most reputable place to look is a testing site operated by the county or the state. in santa clara county, this includes multiple

we shined light on covid test sites in the bay area, san jose, mountain view and san ramon, now the company is closing its doors for a week. patients have been complaining about a company called center for covid control, ccc. late results, no results, reports of results delivered to people who weren't even tested. investigative unit reported that some locations like in mountain view didn't have a business license. today the company is temporarily pausing operations nationwide to retrain a staff to meet regulatory standards. state health department is also investigating. >>> only on nbc bay area, getting better idea why it's still hard to get covid test at county testing sites. santa clara county's biggest health care providers are not doing enough to test their own patients. santa clara sees 15% of patients in the region, but last six month responsible for more than 20% of all testing. kaiser sees 31% of the patients but provides just over 12% of all testing. and the palo alto medical foundation or sutter health sees more than 16% of county patients but accounts for just 2% of covid testing

the cdc runs many sites in mountain view and san ramon. people complained about not getting in testing sites. today we got ahold of their 81-page report that we requested last week. in case after case, medicare and medicaid services inspectors found failures, like this one. a 51-sample shipment from covid control. 50 out of 51 patient tubes were not labeled with patient names or any identifier which means there is no way to know whose is whose. it did not contain any packs to maintain shipping temperature. they know one of the suppliers requires them to store them at 2 degrees celsius -- that's cold -- for storage. the inspector noticed an 11-day stretch in november when the lab got 84,000 samples. it didn't have enough people to process them or deep freezers to store them, so it was unable to test about half of them. 41,196 people tested within the four-hour time frame when testing is valid. they answered the phone, centers for covid control, and referred us to the cdc. the cdc spokesman said the companies are separate. there is no cross-
