and she's going to be talking about miller and her book. i've read a lot of martha gelhorn's stuff, and i was in a book shop in washington, d.c., and i picked up janet's book, and it was a stunner for me, because gelhorn has been mythologized, but not quite in the way this book was organized. it did the war years. although it took you to 1948 and pre-war years living at the white house and doing portage for harry hopkins. what i liked about the book was not only the selection, very prodigious selection. it was a wonderful selection, but interwoven with the selections, the letters, are little pocket biographies of gelhorn that take you -- that set the context for the photographs and place you chronologically where you ought to be and tell you a little bit about what's coming up, and some analysis as well, some very astute analysis. so i thought i was in the hands of a real writing pro, and i thought the book really worked well. and i saw a really nice review of it in "the new yorker." let me just begin here with a couple brief words about th

miller-meeks: mr. speaker, i was pleased that during last night's state of the union that president biden highlighted the need to address the needs of toxic exposed veterans. as i stated earlier in debate, just yesterday, v.a. announced it is initiating the rulemaking process to extend benefits to certain gulf war and post-9/11 veterans who develop nine respiratory cancers. clearly, the secretary has the authority to provide benefits for veterans on a presumptive basis. i applaud the secretary for exercising his authority to provide toxic exposed veterans with the earned benefits based on science and urge him to continue to do so. we should pass the health care for burn pit veterans act now so we can send it straight to the president's desk immediately while we continue to work with our senate colleagues and v.a. on the right solution for additional benefits. however, toxic exposed veterans will not receive health care or benefits simply by virtue of passing the pact act in the house today. thank you,
