first alert meteorologist darren peck is here. you said it. we saw what we saw. >> 38% of average only tells you one small part of the story. that's what we look like from space. you can see there is still snowpack in the sierra but the landscape is so critically dry. 30% is not good. even that 30% we are likely not going to benefit a lot when it comes to run off in reservoirs because the landscape underneath is at historically dry levels. if you look at the soil moisture, there is sierra. there are northern mountains in the bay area. if you come to the sierra, where you have deep shades of red up and down mid sections of the range there is a key which tells you soil moisture is at historically dry levels. that is important because when that 38% of the snowpack melts off really fast over the next six weeks, most of that's going to go into the ground because the ground is really going to be able to absorb this because it is so critically dry. that means it does not necessarily go into reservoir. we will get some to flow in but not as much as we
