the people of san francisco, the voters of san francisco approved this back in 2003, and the work began to look at how we were going to reimagine what van ness boulevard would be in order to provide efficient transit and safety and all the things that we need. when i think back to the history of van ness boulevard and what it represented after the 1906 earthquake, when i used to walk up and down these streets and catch the 49 to the 47 to galileo high school, not too long ago, it was auto row. this city was built mostly to accommodate vehicles, and over the years, we've seen a significant shift, people using various modes of transportation. but also, because we are a city who pride ourselves on making sure we are good stewards of the environment, we noticed something. 47% of greenhouse gas emissions happen in this city because of vehicles, and we need to make changes. we need to make our public transportation system more efficient. we need to make sure that we improve our infrastructure so that different modes of transportation be moved around san francisco in a safe and efficient manne

in san francisco we take having seriously. i want to acknowledge all the people who came dressed about 1906 including the ladies and gentlemen of decades of fashion who dressed me and we take money having seriously. san francisco is an amazing city and the challenges they have faced and this global pandemic, something none of us could have ever anticipated and i am grateful to represent the extraordinary and resilient city. we made that to shut down the city and it was unimaginable to take the serious steps, but guess what? it paid off. san francisco was really the envy of the pandemic because our first responders, and the emergency management and police and fire departments and others and city employees stepped up as disaster service workers, but more importantly, just like in the 1906 earthquake, we came together. we came together to look out for one another and to support one another. we got tired every now and then and tired of zoom and the different meetings and ultimately what we saw is one of the lowest death rates in t

i'm san francisco mayor london breed. and today i'm here to talk about laguna honda hospital and i'm joined by the director of department of public health dr. grant colfax as well as the director or laguna honda michael phillips and located in supervisor melgar and we also have a representative from our speaker of the house nancy pelosi's office, her director, dan bernal. we're here to talk specifically about what we know have been challenges at laguna honda hospital. for over 150 years, this facility has been a beacon of hope. it's been a place that has cared for those who could not care for themselves and, in fact, it has survived the 1906 earth quake and during the pandemic, there were those who thought laguna honda would be similar to many of these care facilities around the country that we would see covid spread rampedly and people die in significant numbers and although we lost six people at laguna honda due to covid, we worked really hard to ensure the safety of the patients there. the people who worked there, the

no, san francisco today is not san francisco 100 years ago or even 50 years ago. we maintain our values and we grow stronger by learning from the past not simply repeating it. our culture of innovation lives on the waterfront with u.c.s.f. and the world class research to help us navigate this pandemic. the reason be the first omicron case in the countries was identified in san francisco. it wasn't because we were first to get it. it is because the researchers at u.c.s.f. were the first to find it that is what is happening. tech companies making groundbreaking discoveries every day in san francisco. waterfront is a place for families. look at the san francisco bay trail, india basin. at mission rock there will soon be a playground for kids to play. [applause]. finally, the central subway will be better connected to the waterfront and the bayview with downtown and chinatown. the beautiful new station. strengthening the connections between long divided communities. that is what i see. housing, jobs, environmental justice, technology, investments, innovation and parks

the small mom-and-pop businesses in downtown san francisco that make san francisco so unique desperately need folks to come back to work. my shop, my little sandwich shop, relies on catering and office business and office lunches, and unfortunately, we're still closed, so i'm so excited for this opportunity today, for the mayor to call businesses back to work because this gives us an opportunity to open our shop again and do what we love best. san francisco, we're all, under the leadership of mayor breed, have done such an amazing job of keeping everyone safe during such a hard time. let's continue to work together to bring back tourism to our city, to bring back conferences and businesses. let's bring back all the great things that we love about this city again, so thank you for this opportunity, and i look forward to what's coming our way. thank you so much. with san francisco. the tenderloin, i didn't think it would, but it's actually gotten worse. the city is covered in filth - and homeless encampments. to many republicans, the city is a sign of everything that's wrong with the left — a town ruined by liberal drug laws and a relaxed attitude to crime. and the figurehead for that is this man, democrat chesa boudin, the elected district attorney for san francisco. boudin is a yale—educated public defender who has l never prosecuted a case. fox news has mentioned your name more than 1000 times in recent contact in the last year. it sounds like you're paying more attention to fox news than i am — and my sympathies for that. chesa boudin is a radical, part of a wave of liberal das elected in cities across america. he's responsible for which crimes get prosecuted. his detractors say he simply doesn't prosecute enough and that he's soft on crime. this is an issue we can't prosecute our way out of. the history of the war on drugs tells us that. we need real

in san francisco. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> a new study coauthored by ucsf scientists shows police are now seizing almost 50 times more fentanyl pills in just 4 years ago. the study's authors are concerned that people may be exposed to fentanyl without even knowing it through counterfeit pills disguised as prescription opioids. that increases the risk of potentially fatal overdoses. california lawmakers are currently looking at several bills to try to curb the rise of deadly overdoses in the state, including harsher punishments for the distribution and possession of fentanyl. today is international transgender visibility day. it's an annual event to celebrate transgender and non-binary people around the world. one of the people who feel strongly about the occasion, the chair of the san francisco democratic party coffers. catherine heenan is here with more on that. catherine? yeah, this woman is a trailblazer. interesting person. >> her name is honey mahogany. she is the first black and transgender ch

nice and beautiful here in san francisco and the port. definitely come. >> our fishermen are super excited. it's great to have the public come down here and interact. >> it's a whole experience for the family, where they bring the kids and interact and say wow, the crab's alive. it's going to claw me and everything. >> they really get excited they're coming down here and posting their recipes or pictures of the food. or their kids picking up the crab. they're making a whole experience out of it. >> it is going to give the locals a part of san francisco that was taken away from them. >> now i have a reason to come back. >> i had a guy the other day come and say he hasn't been down to fisherman's wharf in 10 years. he said i'm going to come down here every weekend. i forgot

san francisco. >> what that would get you is something this is a dollar per kilowatt. per energy sold. that is the basic rates you could come up with. obviously this is in the what we end up. there is a lot of policy goal this is go into it you might have different rates for different types of customers. time of use rates. at their core that is a rate. dollars need to get the power to you to produce the power and divide it by the energy in the city of san francisco. >> the next slide. we got an example on the rival i'm going to talk most low about clean power sf and so we are soing it is the pg and e bill. and this is a reminder that we don't control the entirety of the bill for i clone power customer. you will see pg & e delivery charges and the clean power electic generation charges. the rate study wore on is focussed on had are the rates for those clean power generation charges. most rates are volumetric the way customers control the bill is comfortabling and using less power. that is helpful. th

[♪♪♪] >> last, but certainly not least is a jell-o be opera. they are the punk rock candidate of the lead singer called the dead kennedys. >> if we are blaming anybody in san francisco, we will just blame the dead kennedys. >> there you go. >> we had situations where concerts were cancelled due to flyers, obscene flyers that the city was thought -- that he thought was obscene that had been put up. the city of san francisco has come around to embrace it's musicians. when they have the centennial for city hall, they brought in all kinds of local musicians and i got to perform at that. that was, at -- in a way, and appreciation from the c

we were a center for people with intellectual and development cal disabilities in san francisco san francisco. we also have a program for individuals that have acquired brain injury or traumatic brain injury, and we also have one of the larger after school programs for children with special needs that serves the public school system. the sf carbon fund for us has been the launching pad for an entire program here at the pomeroy center. we received about $15,000. the money was really designed to help us improve our garden by buying plants and material and also some infrastructure like a drip system for plants. we have wine barrels that we repurposed to collect rain water. we actually had removed over 1,000 square feet of concrete so that we could expand the garden. this is where our participants, they come to learn about gardening. they learn about our work in the greenhouse. we have plants that we actually harvest, and eggs from our chickens that we take up and use in cooking classes so that our participants learn as much as anybody else where food comes from. we have two kitchens here at the

san francisco is a beautiful city. often people will remark that homes in san francisco are built right next to each other. what people don't see from street view are the extensive backyards, gardens, and patios. as here, there are beautiful gardens and so much to enjoy beyond what you see from the streets. this project will serve to highlight and restore the yerba buena gardens and invite the public to all the site has to offer. the children's human, i see them coming out here parts of the celebration, thank you for being here and this playground and more. the bay hills are beautified with plants and through an artist imagination to follow and to invite residents, visitors, and transit riders emerging from the new transit station into this space to enjoy the yerba buena gardens. we look forward to watching this project transform the site into a cleaner, more attractive and inviting place that we can all be very proud of. with that said, please help me welcome ms. carmen chiu our city administrator.
