it's 5:00 in new york. rush hour again and the city in the middle of an active situation following a shooting this morning on a moving subway car. the gunman is still out there. law enforcement is in the midst of a sweeping manhunt. they're looking for a man about 5'5", 180 pounds who wore a green construction vest over a gray hoodie. this is video inside the train. it's full of smoke. this is the n train about to pull into the 36th street station in brooklyn. the gunman put on a gas mask, opened a canister and began firing his handgun as the car filled with smoke. the gunman left all those objects behind when he fled the scene. we got this photo showing a bag connected to the suspect full of commercial fireworks. in all, at least 16 people have been injured. 10 were shot. a chaotic and horrific scene. the fire department said five people are in critical condition. thankfully none of them suffered life-threatening injuries. the obvious questions are unanswered -- the who, the why, motive. law enforcement is

not just in new york but nationwide? you get on an airplane, you go through screening, enter certain buildings, there all types of checks and balances to make sure the people entering are doing so in a safe and responsible way. so far, it does not seem there is any reasonable way to institute better security procedures that does not completely slow down the process of entering and exiting our transit systems. jamil: you are exactly right. this is one of the biggest challenges given the number of locations we have like the new york subway system. if you were to install magnetometers alone, that would slow down getting into the station. but also require the deployment of magnetometers. the scale and scope in one city alone is hard to imagine. beyond that, at the same time we do know the new york city police department and fire is on point. they are focusing on where the threat zones might be an targeting those. we also see patrols in the subway system and the like. we need to figure out a way to both allow our people to tr

from this morning of the new york city subway. but he is apparently listed as the person who rented this u-haul vehicle which the nypd recovered in brooklyn earlier tonight. a key for that u-haul rental was apparently found at the scene of the shooting. again, this man, frank james, is apparently the person who rented that vehicle. again, he is only described as a person of interest at this time. they are not describing him explicitly as a suspect. then why pd is asking anybody with knowledge of his whereabouts to please come forward with that information. the nypd is also said that this man, mr. james, made some concerning posts on social media prior to the attack, posts that were about new york city. some of which apparently focus on new york city's mayor, eric adams. we don't know exactly what he said about the mare, but his remarks about the mayor were described as concerning and the nypd responded to the comments on social media by the man described as a portion of interest, they have, they said, tighten demers security detai
