we moved to san francisco early on. in the mission district and moved out to daily city and bounced back to san francisco. we lived across the street from the ups building. for me, when my earliest memories were the big brown trucks driving up and down the street keeping us awake at night. when i was seven-years-old and i'm in charge of making sure we get on the bus on time to get to school. i have to make sure that we do our homework. it's a lot of responsibility for a kid. the weekends were always for family. we used to get together and whether we used to go watch a movie at the new mission theater and then afterwards going to kentucky fried chicken. that was big for us. we get kentucky fried chicken on sunday. whoa! go crazy! so for me, home is having something where you are all together. whether it's just together for dinner or whether it's together for breakfast or sharing a special moment at the holidays. whether it's thanksgiving or christmas or birthdays. that is home. being so close to berkley and oakland and s

and tunnel top park and san francisco park, and all of these great, wonderful open spaces in san francisco that are available. and i will say that this park was my saving grace during the global pandemic. i know that many of you felt the same way. because i would come up here on a regular basis in disguise. and i would see the people with their babies in strollers. i would see folks in wheelchairs and i would see people on their bikes and i would see kids rollerskating and i would see them on their scooters and the thing that i saw more than anything else was not just all of the folks who were using this area, but i loved seeing the smiles on people's faces to be able to be out here in this way and to enjoy this incredible open space. so this is a victory for san francisco. this is something that we will be able to treasure, that kids now growing up and going roller skating and hanging out on j.f.k. promenade will be able to share with their children in this city. and i want to really thank so many of the various mommy groups because, man, when moms get together and they want something to

of the san francisco medical society. we represent over 3000 positions living in san francisco and marin. we had a long history of advocating for theright to choose . a long history of advocating for access for patients to exercise this right and we feel that abortion is a medical decision tobe made by patient and her physician .i wanted to tell you a story. i was telling this trauma physician as i was coming here today and he told me the story resonated with me and has some real lessons. it was a trauma surgeon and the woman had a traumatic brain injury and she was brain-dead . as part of the evaluation for trauma they checked for pregnancy turned up thiswoman was pregnant . she was stable and she was pregnant. it turns out they were working institution that shall we say is less than forward thinking about reproductive rights . and you know, normally this womanwould have been onlife support for 30 days . i'm sorry, 30 months . to carry this fetus to term. and the right thing to do in this situation is to withdraw care on

both in the san francisco -- both from san francisco state university. like many san franciscans, they were drawn to our city by promises of diversity and inclusion and they have spent much of the last quarter century helping san francisco make good on those promises. lara's commitment to serving those in need is exceptional. they have fought for justice and demanded equity in our broken systems. they have worked at ymca, san francisco unified and other organizations that work to support communities and individuals in need. san francisco is fortunate that last october lara was chosen as lyric's new executive director. for 33 years, lyric has made its home in the castro with a mission to build community and inspire positive change through education enhancement, career training, health promotion and leadership development with lgbtq youth, their families and all races. lyric was founded in 1988 and is one of the largest youth centers specifically for queer youth in in the last year alone, they have served over 4,000 queer youth. 81% of whom are low-income

san francisco's sales tax has had the weakest recovery in california and in san francisco, it's below inflation, but it's particularly announced in the northeast sector of the city. where the leisure and hospitality jobs are concentrated is where we've seen the sales tax drop and we're not seeing office workers and we're not seeing tourism and we're not seeing population. so why is this happening in the office market? i just have a couple more slides. there was earlier in the pandemic when everybody was sort of forced to work remotely, a bit of a disconnect about what would happen after the pandemic with a lot of workers wanting to stay remote and a lot of employers wanting people to come back. a professor at stanford university nick bloom and his colleagues have been doing monthly surveys about working from home and this data comes from that. and what it basically shows through march of this year is that employees are winning that battle. that gap is closing and it's closing by employers conceding that more time will be spent working at home and less time will be spent in the office.

. >> in the early 90s, san francisco hired some engineers to analyze the material san francisco was sending to landfill. they did a waste characterization study, and that showed that most of the material san francisco was sending to landfill could be composted. it was things like food scraps, coffee grounds and egg shells and sticks and leaves from gardening. together re-ecology in san francisco started this curbside composting program and we were the first city in the country to collect food scraps separately from other trash and turn them into compost. it turns out it was one of the best things we ever did. it kept 2.5 million tons of material out of the landfill, produced a beautiful nutrient rich compost that has gone on to hundreds of farms, orchards and vineyards. so in that way you can manage your food scraps and produce far less methane. that is part of the solution. that gives people hope that we're doing something to slow down climate change. >> i have been into soil biology or the microbes feed the plant and our job as regenerative farmers is to feed the microbes with compost and

san francisco to san jose in just 30 minutes. the new report that says it could be possible. rail authority today released its final report on the possible environmental impacts of the 49 mile rail section between san francisco and san jose, the report says. once a section is completed, people will be able to travel between the two cities in just 30 minutes. the report bills on the may approval of the san jose to merced section and completes the environmental analysis in northern california. the authority's board of directors will consider the final document for approval in august. berkeley is in the process of moving homeless campers out of people's park and into transitional housing. the university is getting ready to start construction on housing project. ktvu elissa harrington spoke to activists who tell us they're planning to occupy the park. this is what people's park in berkeley looked like back in april. this is what it looks like now. most tents gone piles of mulch and dirt in their place . you see, berkley is preparing

in the city of san francisco. proposition k is not a post-pandemic plan. it is not a plan that takes into account the voters voting no on proposition a this is a plan that does not listen to the voters. in 2016, the voters of san francisco rejected a renewal of proposition k, very much like this quote-unquote renewal of proposition k. proposition k was authorized in 2003 for 30 years. we have heard this is another 30-year extension. notice it is not 2033. it is 2022. why are they extending this? in 2017, after the failure of 2016's proposition k renewal, san francisco went out and borrowed $250 million on future sales tax revenue... san francisco is phase one. the idea is to end the epidemic, and we just got an announcement of our award after this presentation, so an award of $2.4 million for that for this year. a good work of my colleagues and getting to zero funds, that's happened, a lot of that goes through care contracts, hiv care contracts, and then, of course, the work of the board of supervisors to backfill the reductions as well as new funding for behavioral health for long-term survivors, which i'll talk about briefly because i understand there might be some interest in that. there was one point, about 15 years ago, now, where we took a huge hit of $9 million, and you can see there was some service categories that we were no longer able to fund, and i can talk about these, but that's also 15 years ago, and the system has adjusted to make most of these services happen in different ways. next slide, please. okay. so just to kind of restate it, you can see here the bar going up on the right-hand side, that orange thing kind of shows h
