let's go to the subpoena to rudy giuliani. i want to start -- we're going to circle back to january 6th but let's go to this georgia set of subpoenas. there is evidence that the witness's appearance and testimony at the hearing was part of a multi-state coordinated plan to influence the results of the 2020 election in georgian elsewhere. what do you make of these subpoenas not only of rudy giuliani and john eastman and jenna ellis, but also of senator lindsey graham? >> well, look, what we're seeing is a criminal investigation that started inside georgia talking to the folks who are witnesses, the folks who received the phone calls and the pressure tactics from trump and his allies, right? and we know that rudy giuliani actively engaged in the discussions that led up to january 6th. we know that from any number of places but also from his testimony that the georgia legislature rejected. and we know in addition, i mean this is -- remember, there's also the civil lawsuits going on, which is the defamation suits against rudy giul

like you said, these are subpoenas going out to former trump attorney rudy giuliani as well as south carolina senator lindsey graham. there are also a handful of former trump campaign attorneys who have been subpoenaed to appear before the grand jury. those include john eastman, who we have heard about in the january 6th hearings. janu jana ellis, and on the call between trump and raffensperger, where donald trump pressed raffensperger pressed him to find the votes to win. and ken, who allegedly worked with the officials in georgia to put forward this slate of electors, so we've seen a lot of activity out of this grand jury. this is of course significant because it is moving closer to trump. an attorney for giuliani declined to comment on this, and we have reached out to lindsey graham's office but have not heard back yet, alisyn. >> sara murray, thank you very much for the latest. let's bring in cnn legal analyst, jennifer rogers, a former federal prosecutor. what do these subpoenas tell us about the investigation? >> it's moving forward and moving forward at a pretty good clip. the

today subpoenas went out to rudy giuliani, john eastman, and senator lindsey graham, among others, as part of fulton county's investigation into the trump campaign's efforts after joe biden's legitimate election win. joining us now, former federal prosecutor, tali farhadian weinstein, an msnbc political contributor, matthew dowd. tali, how is this, what's happening in georgia, differ from what the january six committee is doing, and i have to ask, yes, on its surface, subpoenas to eastman, lindsey graham, rudy giuliani, sounds big. but any chance they are going to comply? >> yes, it doesn't just sound big, stephanie, it is big. we are at this point at least two years into watching and in some cases, speculating about whether donald trump is going to be held accountable. either in law, or in politics. and i've always thought that he's had the most exposure in fulton county, georgia, and i am more convinced of that today. because these subpoenas really are significant. and they are through the criminal process. that is very different from a political committee. not that january six comm

what do we know about this order for rudy giuliani to testify? >> reporter: we know this is a notable update. we know two things. a judge ordered him to testify here in fulton county before the special grand jury. also, we have a date, august 9 is the day he has been ordered to testify. according to a court filing entered this morning by the fulton county d.a., giuliani was supposed to appear at a new york hearing, before a new york judge to fight the subpoena, to make the case why he shouldn't be forced to comply with that subpoena. the judge says giuliani didn't show up to that hearing. that's what prompted him to now issue this order for him to come down and testify here in georgia. we should mention we reached out to giuliani's team for comment. a major development in that he is now ordered to come and testify before the special grand jury. >> chuck, what does that mean? can he just not show up again? what's the legal implication here? >> well, we saw from steve bannon what happens when you ignore a subpoena. if he didn't show up, if he didn'
