let's bring in our business reporter, scott budman. we have had this conversation before. what is the take away for the normal guy or gal watching? >> reporter: this is big. this is hyperinflation. we haven't seen this kind of inflation since you and i were very young, back in the early '80s. we have seen price pressures being put on people from the things they buy, groceries, gas prices. it's very important. what the federal reserve wants to do is put the brakes on spending, curb inflation without causing a deeper recession so that we can get back to buying things without spinning a huge amount. >> we talked about high gas prices and grocery prices. we get it. what happens now? what about credit card balances? >> reporter: one of the things if interest rates goes up means that debt gets more expensive. one big thing you should do if you have any extra cash laying around us try to pay off your credit cards because credit card debt is going to go up because the interest rate will go up. that is the downside of what the federal reserve is doing. it makes saving money better
