cheryl scott from our station wls in chicago leads us off. tell us about this powerful storm that's now spreading across the country tonight. >> yes, linsey, this storm system is advancing east. already dumping over a foot of snow in parts of the rockies, and now this powerful cold front is going to bring very heavy rain and high winds to the middle of the country. gusts upwards of 40 to 60 miles per hour per hour. you can see the band of rain from the upper midwest to the deep south. this is slowly going to advance its way to the east. with it comes the threat of severe weather. tonight, the bull's eye, sioux falls down to kansas city. tomorrow, that severe weather threat in parts of southeast texas. by tuesday, into mississippi. we're talking damaging winds, large hail, isolated tornadoes and heavy rain. a swath of 3 to 4 plus inches anywhere from chicago back to texas. this is much needed rain for the middle of the country, linsey. >> fall can still have some severe weather there. thank you. >>> next tonight, the race to the midterms is he

scott is right, cheryl, you're right as well. as humans, we have this thing where we just assume what's happened recently will continue, and that's never the case. and we always say you want to be buying when it feels like the world is falling apart. and if you're someone that's selling today, when are you going to get back in, when the market's higher? are you really going to get back in when the world is worse than it is today? if most people can't do that, so i agree. we want to stay invested. but we may want to to own companies that pay us dividends. so we're big believers right now, let's own stocks that pay us to own them, and we'll get back to growth at another time. now's the time to be paid to own equities. cheryl: high-yield dave end payers, scott, a group that's been talked about. also a look at some of the sectors that are the most beaten down. financials seem to be coming back a little bit. look at consumer staples, health care. i mean, there are sectors in market that are need-based. maybe not consumer discretionary
