we're seeing a lot of heavy rain across the south bay. look at santa clara, where we are seeing a lot of yellows and oranges, sunnyvale as well. there may be some standing water on the roadways. and then as you're going up 101 or 280, either one is going to be very sloppy. we've also seen some of the rain changing over to snow in the berkeley hills and we're also going to see some off and on showers continue there as well. as far as the north bay, up around lake and mendocino counties, it's starting to taper off and we're also starting to see it wrapping up for parts of northern napa county, and then look at the wide view where we had the lightning strikes over the santa cruz mountains, as well as san francisco. here is the center of the storm, so it's still in the area and it will continue to bring us more rain, as well as snow. here is what to expect as the rain and snow continues. our winds are gusting at about 25 to 35 miles per hour, and there still will be the chance that we could see lightning and small hail. all of that will start

more than 32,000 are without power in the south bay. our chief meteorologist bill martin, begins our coverage tonight. bill will the strong winds continue into tomorrow? they're going to back off julie. they already kind of have pulled back a little. but these were the strongest gusts from today and the thing to note would be that ocean beach number 73 miles an hour, right down at the beach. that's wendy. when you go up iron mountain milpitas, you're under 60 miles an hour. so the strongest winds today we're down at sea level where most of us live, where most of the big cities are. and so it was a very noticeable day of wind. the winds advisory stays in effect through one o'clock tomorrow afternoon, the wind warning gets dropped. that's right along the coast, right on the coastal strip there from half moon bay south to santa cruz in that wind warning gets dropped in the morning hours. either way, winds are pulling back a little bit. we're going to get into some very cool air. over the next 24 hours, and has that occurs we'll see. freeze

alright and and damage trees down in the south bay. let's go there now to homeowners have some major cleaning up to do. >> because it big tree fell down and damaged their property. look at how massive this tree as it fell down from highway 17 near campbell. and it went into a backyard of robin trainee and it's because of tuesday's heavy winds. that tree fell over damaging her retaining wall, hitting her neighbor's roof as well. and she says it's the second time this has happened in 2 months. the first was back in january. a pine tree fell on some power lines in her backyard. >> and she says this would happen if the city had taken care of the problem. the first time. >> what a what a mess. what a mask. that's what i city needs to take care of these trees. they don't maintain them at all. and every time we get a storm, they basically throw up in my backyard. >> fall over and she said she's contacted multiple city departments but kind of got the run around. >> and she says simple maintenance could have avoided this. and that's what she st

east bay as well as south bay. all is out to the central valley in the sierra nevada below this. you will still see the possibility of some flurries and maybe even a little dusting here and there across the rest of the bay area. that's tonight into tomorrow morning. now freeze warnings in effect, starting again tonight into tomorrow morning as well as frost advisories for basically the entire bay area. snow line tonight should remain right around 1000 feet, but some areas will see it falling below. then for reference, twin peaks is around 922 feet. so it doesn't take a lot lower than that to start seeing some snow flurries and some of our highest peaks in san francisco itself. now we will see spotty showers throughout the course of the day today. rain really picks up overnight tonight. the heavier pockets on through our evening hours. snow level falls to its very lowest for a pre-dawn hours tomorrow morning. and that's when we'll see that best chance of flurries in our urban areas. futurecast rainfall totals, anoth

in the south bay. we have san jose mineta international now adding a new airline to its carriers, but not everybody is thrilled. spirit airlines, which is considered to be an ultra-low budget airline plans to begin service from san jose to dallas, las vegas and san diego starting on june 7th, some say spirit has the best prices. but the worst passenger experience so little give and take there. the airport says it's hoping, though, to boost tourist travel to san jose, which mainly seas business travelers at the moment. >> but united airlines and making it a lot easier for families to actually fly together. queso. the airline is announcing that parents you're going to able to book seats right next to your kids without paying a fee. that is a game-changer. okay. united saying that children under 12 years, all of their to be able to sit next to an adult in the party. no extra charge for the family. the company says more families seen options will appear on their seat map tool. maybe utley that change going

the peninsula into the south bay. after that, we're clear for the evening, but then it's going to turn very cold tonight. take a look at how we'll start out tomorrow morning, below freezing in some spots, like san jose, down to 31 degrees tomorrow morning. 33 in dublin. it's going to be frosty all around our valleys in the bay area. that's the reason why we are under a freeze watch for the coastal areas in the north bay, parts of the santa cruz mountains. the purple shading is a freeze warning and we'll most likely be below freezing for a few hours. our high temperatures only reach the low 50s and we'll see some cold weather throughout the end of the week. but the weekend, it does start to feel a little bit better with highs in the low 60s. next week is also looking cold toward the end of the week, so we don't see a significant warm-up here for quite a while. and there will be slight rain chances on friday. other than that, we're just going to see some quick-moving showers here and there. we're back to the sunshine. a

shoreline, south bay. you have easily been a dry spot there in the santa clara valley. all the mountains around. you've been picking up that moisture and stealing it from. yes. so you are running into some heavy rain in the santa cruz mountains and some heavy snow on mount hamilton. this right here, though, is the spot i'm watching most close from the richmond center fell bridge on up 80 through richmond up the car, keen us through the late going up to fairfield heavy, heavy rainfall here. watch for some standing water on routes like highway 37 on 80 highway. 29 as well as on the richmond center fell bridge and highway 101. these areas have consistently seen heavy rainfall for about the past hour now. so we've got some water stacking up there and some of those poor drainage areas. also seeing some rain picking up out there. ocean beach in sunset districts in san francisco. now the heavy snow continues in the sierra and along the north coast, too. that is going to continue all the way through the evening to

all the way down to the south bay and then it lingers through the south bay through about 11:00 tomorrow night. then as we roll through sunday where we could get into some additional totals, we'll see scattered areas of rain, chance of some isolated thunderstorms, maybe even some of that small hail. again, the worst and the heaviest widespread rain is expected tomorrow evening. rainfall totals on this, much higher than what we saw today, anywhere from a half to 1 inch for most of the bay area. then you get down in the south bay where it could linger a little longer and you could see these red zones over los gatos, santa cruz mountains, morgan hill, even for areas near fremont where totals would be 1 to maybe 1 1/2 inches. a pretty good punch here of weather coming our way as we head through tomorrow night. wind is also something that could bring down some trees, make even some power outages. tomorrow morning it's not that bad, 10 to about 20 miles per hour, but look at this. as that storm front moves in, 20 to 50-mile-per-hour gusts at 10 p.m. tomorrow night. it will be a quick blast of
