here's abc's clayton sandell. >> may i have your attention please? >> reporr: anton yelchin was pinned and killed by his own car, a 2015 jeep grand cherokee. but last summer, federal safety investigators began looking into complaints about the gear shifter in jeep grand cherokees, chrysler 300s and dodge chargers. by april of this year, chrysler issued a voluntary recall. reports of rollaway cars leading to 212 crashes and 41 injuries. but judy borlin says, a month later, she still didn't know about the recall, when her car that she thought was in park, rolled over her legs. that recall notice arrived a few days later. chrysler says the shifter did not fail, blaming the rollaways on drivers who didn't realize their cars weren't in park. the company is now offering a software fix and a new warning system for those recalled cars, but you'll notice, in the 2016 model, chrysler has gone back to a more traditional shifter design. >> bottom line is, what chrysler has to do is to fix it, fix it soon and get it right. 800,000 affected cars that need fixing.

more from abc's clayton sandell. >> denver this morning is struggling to recover. the country's fifth pth busiest airport completely shut down most of wednesday by a raging snowstorm and blizzard stranding thousands. >> we just heard that our flight's canceled. >> reporter: long, long lines to rebook flights. >> thank your lucky stars you might not be sleeping in denver international airport tonight. >> reporter: on the roads to the airport and everywhere else, nobody else was moving either. hundreds of miles of major interstates closed in wyoming, colorado and kansas. whiteout conditions leaving big rigs jackknifed and cars stuck. the seesaw from spring back to winter conditions came quick. snowfall two inches an hour in gusty winds up to 60 miles per hour. temperature plummeted from the 60s thursday night into the thursday wednesday but our thermometer got buried in more than six inches of snow. all day police have been trying to rescue drivers stranded by the snow and now the national guard has been called in to help. the good news the system is now moving east.

here's abc's clayton sandell. >> may i have your attention please? >> reporter: it's still not clear exactly how actor anton yelchin was pinned and killed by his own car, a 2015 jeep grand cherokee. but last summer, federal safety investigators began looking into complaints about the gear shifter in jeep grand cherokees, chrysler 300s and dodge chargers. by april of this year, chrysler issued a voluntary recall. reports of rollaway cars leading to 212 crashes and 41 injuries. but judy borlin says, a month later, she still didn't know about the recall, when her car that she thought was in park, rolled over her legs. that recall notice arrived a few days later. chrysler says the shifter design did not fail, blaming the rollaways on drivers who didn't realize their cars weren't in park. the company is now offering a software fix and a new warning system for those recalled cars, but you'll notice, in the 2016 model, chrysler has gone back to a more traditional shifter design. >> bottom line is, what chrysler has to do is to fix it, fix it soon and get it
