supervisor melgar? >> supervisor melgar: thank you, mr. speaker. colleagues, tonight i have three items. the first one is an accept and expend ordinance authorizing the office of cannabis to accept and expend a grant award of a million dollars from the board of state and community corrections from proposition 64 funds. this money will help our department of public health be able to have programs to mitigate the access and exposure to cannabis by public youth. programs are based on leadership development of youth and understandings the environmental and cultural impacts of substance use as children. it will create a new position at the office of cannabis that will ensure compliance of new cannabis businesses. it will increase inspection of applicants and operators and just, you know, add to our capacity to support this nascent industry. and also to be able to respond more quickly to cannabis-related complaints from the public. so, the second item that i am introducing is a resolution. there are many priorities that we have these days, but the climat

supervisor melgar. >> thank you, very much, president walton. thank you colleagues, i just wanted to once again shed light on what is happening in burma. also known as mayanmar. on february 1st, burma was taken over by yet another coup. democratically electorate leaders including state councilor suki and president mint were detained in an early morning raid by military officials. the military is announcing the result of their democratic election this past november and this is an all too familiar plot for power and corruption. burma has been fighting for democracy since its independence from britain in 1948. the people of burma suffered under military coup since the 1960s resulting in mass killings, human rights abuses and political instability. we may all remember the up rising in 1988 when non violence students activists were massacred by the regime of the satisfy ron revolution in 2007 where monks were attacked for protesting economic conditions. the path to democracy has been difficult with many ethnic groups and other groups in burma displac
