since that, the part-time obama care has actually trended downward, the notion that obama care is causing part-time work is simply not the data. joining me now on the eve of its full implementation is washington post columnist, ezra klein. can we start with this labor, job killing program? you get the fact it is killing jobs, responsible for slow job growth in the recovery, and also pushing people into part-time work. is there any reason to look at the data and think it was a true hypothesis. >> it would be remarkable if the market anticipated obama care and shed those jobs. it did not kill jobs, it is not even working at the moment. it doesn't not begin to deliver insurance until january first. the one part that was legitimate is this idea that there is a rule on employers who have more than 50 employees who work more than 30 hours a week, they have to offer health insurance. and if they don't, they have to pay a penalty. that is fine for most of them. most offer health insurance already. but for those who it is not, they may push employees into part-time work so they don't count as havi

obama care. nothing is perfect, especially something as big and important as a health care law like this, but we're not going to talk about changing it until after the debt ceiling is raised, until after the government is reopened. but it doesn't sound like republicans are entirely giving up, at least not in big ways to change it like defunding it or delaying it, but at least some issues around the edges, again, lots of talk about things like repealing the medical device tax which helps pay for obama care which a lot of democrats do not like. things like that. but unclear how that is going in these talks, because everybody, republicans and democrats who have been so vocal just 24 hours ago about their disdain for the process are now very quiet which is a good sign, because they think they're making progress. >> let's see if they are. we should know fairly soon. stand by. let's go to our senior white house correspondent, jim acosta, right now. you just came out of that briefing from jay carney. th

>> trying to stop obama care? >> no, no, i don't want to argue the merits of obama care right now. i understand you feel strongly and there's another place and time for that. i'm talking about this specific strategy, tying the defunding of obama care to the funding of the government, and then how it went on from there. house republicans and senate democrats not being able to reach any sort of compromise. if you could go back in time, do you think there would be a way to do this more effectively? >> you have to keep this fight up. obama care is going to cost $2 trillion over the next ten years. i would -- i think the best time to stop a broken entitlement program is before it starts. so i don't think this is a fight that anyone wanted, but it needs to be had. >> don't you think your party and maybe even the tea party movement within the republican party, is weaker today than it was three weeks ago? polls would suggest that most of the american people hold the republicans in congress more responsible for the shutdown, more responsible for this fight, and the unfavorable ratings for t
