hello there my name is jeff and i'll be  showing you how to use our private edit  base here at cmac access to these edit  computers is a perk that comes with  being a cmac member all of our editing  machines are imacs and come  pre-installed with a variety of programs  like final cut pro 10 premiere pro  davinci resolve and many many more to  start you'll want to make a reservation  for an edit bay by going to cmac.tv  reserve in addition to being a current  cmac member you'll need to be working on  an approved project once you get into  your edit bay wake up the computer by  pressing the power button on the back of  the imac if you notice that the keyboard  and or mouse are unresponsive make sure  that they are powered on if nothing  happens they may need to be charged  charging cables can be found on the desk  and each edit bay i should note that you  will be unable to use the wireless mouse  while it's charging so kindly notify a  staff member and they will retrieve a  wired mouse for you to use in the  meantime once the imac boots up you're  almost ready to start editing there's  just a few housekeeping things that you  should know headphones are required when  using our editing computers this way we  can minimize the disturbance to other  members who may be editing or recording  their videos in the area if you don't  have your own pair of headphones a staff  member at the front desk should be able  to check some out to you our imacs  delete everything once they are shut off  so you'll want to transfer all of your  footage from your sd card to an external  hard drive and edit off of that hard  drive as well if you don't have an  external hard drive you can check one  out temporarily at the front desk to get  started insert your sd card into the  back of the imac with the label facing  up  go ahead and plug your external hard  drive into a free usb slot as well you  should see two icons appear on the  desktop one is for your sd card and the  other is for your hard drive double  click on both icons to open a window for  each on your hard drive go ahead and  create a new folder for your footage you  can structure your folder however you  like just remember that organization is  key to having an easier edit if you  can't create a folder your hard drive  may not be properly formatted for use on  an imac if this happens to you check out  our video on how to format your hard  drive for windows and mac now search  through your sd card and find your  footage you can also just copy  everything from the sd card instead  select all the files by pressing the  command and a keys one after another now  simply click and drag the files from the  sd card over to the desired folder on  your hard drive this could take a while  depending on how many video files you  have once everything is transferred you  can go ahead and eject your sd card by  clicking the arrow icon in the finder  window you can also eject your sd card  by right clicking the icon on the  desktop and clicking eject when the icon  on the desktop disappears go ahead and  remove your sd card from the back of the  imac if you have any other media like  music or stock footage be sure to save  this onto your hard drive as well with  all of your media on your hard drive  you're now ready to edit just remember  to save your project files and final cut  libraries onto your drive when you're  done editing for the day make sure you  eject your hard drive before unplugging  it just like you did with the sd card  and now you're ready to start editing  here at cmec we hope to see you around  sometime oh and if you prefer to edit  from home we do have macbooks available  for checkout as well these computers  won't delete everything when they shut  down however they will be wiped whenever  they are checked back in so we still  recommend having everything on your  external hard drive thank you for  watching and don't forget to bring your  hard drive  [Music]  [Applause]  [Music]
