Wireless sensor detection is readily accessible, easily deployable, and usable technology that provides public-safety personnel with an early-warning and identification tool in the event of a Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear (CBRN) incident. This is accomplished by incorporating wireless sensor detection capability into the Los Angeles Fire Departments (LAFD) hazardous-materials operations. Due to the relative ease of use and low cost of deployment, it makes sense that the LAFD employ...

The preparation of the two most active tetrahydrocannabinol analogs mentioned by Adams is well under way. For one compound ten of the fourteen necessary steps have been completed, and for the other, seven. Concurrently with the above work, various synthetic methods have been tried for the preparation of intermediates which could lead to nitrogen and sulfur analogs of tetrahydrocannabinol.

The preparation of one or the most active tetrahydrocannabinol analogs mentioned by Adams (Formula I, R = 1-methyloctyl) has been completed except for the final distillation. The preparation of the second of Adams' oompounds (R = 1,2-dimetbyiheptyl) has been delayed because or delay in the arrival of an intermediate. Concurrently with the above work, various synthetic methods have been tried for the preparation of intermediates which could lead to nitrogen and sulfur analogs of...

One of the most active tetrahydrocannabinol analogs mentioned by Adams (Formula I, R=2-nonyl) has been completed. The preparation of the second of Adams' compounds R=1,2-dimethylheptyl) is now at the stage of 2(3,5dimethoxyphenyl)-3-methyloctene-2 and requires four more steps. The preparation of nitrogen and sulfur analogs is being approached by two different methods which were suggested in the previous report. One starting with 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid has been carried through five steps to...

The preparation of Adams' most active tetrahydrocannabinol analog (Formula I, R = 1,2-dimethylheptyl) has been delayed at the next to the last step due to the low yield of the pyrone. Work on the preparation of a compound having an amino group in the alkyl side chain (Formula T, R = 2-aminoethyl) has been started. The preparation of analogs with nitrogen or sulfur in the five position via 3-amino-3-amyl phenol has been delayed awaiting the development of a satisfactory process for converting...

The preparation of Adams' most active tetrehydrocannabinol analog (Formula I, R=1,2-dimethylheptyl), and of synthetic tetrahydrocannabinol (I, R=n-anyl) have been completed. Work on the preparation of an analog having an amino group in the alkyl side chain (I, R=2-aminoethyl) is at the stage of beta-(3,5-dimethoxyphenyl) ethylanine. The pyrons related to tetrahydrocannabinol (II, R=n-amyl) has been reaction with aqueous ammonia to produce a high melting material which may be a phenanthridone. A...

Under a project directive for the development of an effective decontamination apparatus producing a hypochiorite slurry from liquid chlorine, dry chemical and water, there has been designed, fabricated, and tested equipment of the following specifications: 1. No power source is required other than that inherert in the supply water. 2. The equipment has a capacity of 25 gpm of hypochlorite slurry at a supply water pressure of 100 psig. The discharge at this operating condition is suitable for...

Intravenous and percutaneous toxicity dataa obtained using rabbits are analyzed to compare V-agents and GB with respect to inherent toxicity and factors related to percutaneous effectiveness, such as the cumulative percutaneous action of a single application and the rate of percutaneous traversal. The following summarizes the findings of this analysis: 1. Inherent toxicity (LD50 I.V. at 24 hr.) - EA 1517 and GB EA 1511 and EA 1508. 2. Percutaneous toxicity (LD50, decontamination at 24 hr. and...

In view of possible loss of triethylamine from stabilised GB during filtration under reduced pressure the need has arisen for a method of determining the free base in the charging. A simple colorimetric method of estimating triethylamine has been developed and applied to the measurement of partial pressure of the base in low mole fractions over GB. Some information on the equilibria between triethylamine and the various acidic impurities in GB has been obtained by the same technique.

Some special tests on the protective characteristics of aqueous CC-2 impregnated clothing and carbon rayon clothing were performed. Previous contamination with H vapor has no significant effect on the protective value of CC-2 impregnated clothing if the impermeable content has not been seriously lowered. Tests on the effect of salt water showed that: (a) CC-2 suits wet with salt water during exposure to H vapor provide much greater protection than corresponding dry clothing; (b) The presence of...

The object of this research was to compare the lethality of VX injected intravenously and applied percutaneously at low, normal, and high environmental temperatures. The conclusions reached are as follows: 1. Acute exposure of rats at 2 or 34 deg increased the toxicity of VX administered intravenously or percutaneously when compared with exposure at 26 deg C. The effect of temperature on lethality of VX is more marked with percutaneous application than with intravenous injection.

Project Firefly 1960, the upper atmosphere chemical release program of the Geophysics Research Directorate, has provided a systematic study of several types of upper atmosphere perturbations. Reports on reduced and interpreted data from a number of optical and radio-frequency stations were prepared and published as a special GRD report. A preliminary crosscorrelation of that information is presented. The information consists of an introduction, special sections on missile trails and weapon...

Various methods of aerosol encapsulation were studied: (1) liquid phase microencapsulation, (2) condensation, and (3) coagulation. Aerosol encapsulation by condensation, using the core particles or droplets as condensation nuclei, proved to be a generally successful technique. Coagulation with inertial forces, using simple low-powered devices, showed little promise as a practical aerosol encapsulation method. Coagulation with electrostatic charging of the particles was only partially successful...

CATALYSIS OF NUCLEOPHILIC CLEAVAGE OF PHOSPHONATES: So that a large number of catalysts and catalyst combinations could be studied rapidly and exactly, hydrolysis of a simple compound such as diethyl methylphosphonate was followed. Results indicated that neither catalysis by acids or bases were readily observable for this reaction, where the attacking nucleophile is a hydroxide ion. REARRANGEMENT OF HYDROXAMIC ACIDS: p-(Phenylazo)-benzohydroxamic acid was prepared from the commercially...
