A survey of the transcript levels associated with vaccinia virus was performed. Specific and unique vaccinia promoters were identified by standard techniques and manipulated to drive the expression of foreign genes such as Beta lactosidase and glycoproteins. Promoters of all three classes (early, intermediate, late) were identified and studied. No single promoter was found to be exceptional. Most strong promoters C10LW, H6, 11K, IL3 gave good expression which fell within several fold of each...

The purpose of this study was to determine whether a bivalent (dengue-2-4) vaccine could confer immunity in rhesus monkeys against wild type virus infection. It was found that: (1) DEN-2/S-1 animals showed an anamnestic response as well as undetectable viremia after challenge with w.t. DEN-2 virus. Divalent vaccines also showed an anamnestic response after DEN-2 virus challenge. (2) DEN-4 vaccine did not elicit a measurable immune response in 6/8 animals as judged by PRNT, augmented N tests and...

The purpose of this study was to determine how much dengue 2 and dengue 4 viruses were required to infect rhesus monkeys. To this effect, groups of five dengue antibody free animals were inoculated subcutaneously with serial 10 fold dilutions of dengue 2 (PR159) and dengue 4 (H241) viruses. Virus titrations were carried out simultaneously by direct plaque assay in LLC-MK2 cells, by mosquito inoculation using both Aedes aegypti and Toxorynchites amboiensis and in the monkeys. Previous studies on tularemia prophylaxis have established that live vaccine is far superior to killed vaccines for the immunization of animals and man. Forther investigation indicated, however, that recovery from tularemia provided the monkey even greater immunity. We postulated that a live vaccine prepared from an attenuated mutant selected from a highly virulent North American strain might afford even greater protection than our present vaccine, which contains a mutant derived from an Old...

The garnet-type ceramic electrolyte of nominal composition Li7La3Zr2O12 can exist in the tetragonal and cubic form. This article investigates the tetragonal to cubic phase transition based on super-valent cation substitution on the 24c site typically occupied by La (3 ) in the garnet structure. Ce (4 ) was selected as the super-valent cation represented as x in Li7 xLa3 xCexZr2O12. The doping study showed that cubic LLZO was stabilized for Ce 0.2.
