Name your favorite kind of tune and Jerry Byrd will play it for you with all the
tone magnificence and penetrating expression for which he is famous. Not only does
Jerry run the gamut of variety in tune tempos in this album, but all of his marvelous
presentations are emphasized at just the right places by inspirational harmonic
choruses and delightful double bass string harmony which lend a unique sound
background to each song. Jerry plays only a single neck or string Richenbacher
guitar to attain the imaginative and varied effects of his versatile technique. The
result is a collection of melodies to satisfy the appetite of any mood of any listener
and to stimulate in each a receptive desire to hear more.
The tunes you’ll hear have the inimitable Jerry Byrd touch. Waltzes such as
“The One Rose,” “The Moon of Manakoora,” “The Teen-Agers Waltz,” “Dance of
the Goldenrod,” and “La Golondrina,” glide out smoothly with all the undertones
of passionate depth that identify the waltz as a classic among romantic tempo tunes.
Jerry beautifully creates the sensuous suggestiveness of the Latin tango in “La
Cumparsita” and “La Rosita.” Fast beat tunes, “Remington Ride” and an original,
“Slippery Elm,” come bouncing out from Jerry with a style that defies your feet to
refrain from keeping time. And if you go for blues, the great old standard, ““Memphis
Blues,” as Jerry plays it is irresistable. “Steelin’ The Blues” is a well-known Byrd
original made over eight years ago that needs no introduction to ‘“blues-lovers” and
is another welcome inclusion in the album. No varied collection would be complete
without a ballad, and no collection could boast a more beautiful one than “Come A
Little Closer” as Jerry plays it.
You’ll want to know the men who are responsible for Jerry’s terrific accompani-
ment. They are Hank Garland and Grady Martin on electric guitars, Ray Edenton
and Harold Bradley on rhythm guitars, and Bob Moore on bass.
After listening to the great numbers in this album, you’ll also want to know
more about Jerry Byrd. He lives in the South — Nashville, Tennessee, to be exact —
and is currently appearing daily on a noon-hour program over WSIX-TV, Nashville.
He has been playing professionally for fifteen years and is well-known for his record-
ings with such stars as Guy Mitchell, Rosemary Clooney, The Harmonicats, and |
Patti Page in the Pop field, and with many folk and country stars such as Rex Allen,
Hank Williams, Red Foley, and George Morgan, and — well, practically every artist
of similar renown in the past years.
We feel that Jerry’s album is as varied as the moods of any listener and will
be ready to provide welcome and lasting entertainment regardless of the provoca-
